Ode to Driving

ODE TO DRIVING
By Raylene Elmer Bush
If you drive in Grenada be wary
In my mind it's really quite scary!
There are round-a-bouts, true
Where we know what to do
Unless they disguise them like this...

Winding roads seem like serpentine curves
They really can grate on your nerves
There are blind spots ahead
Careful or you could be dead
You'll see hundreds of turns just like this...

If you fear San Francisco's steep hills
There are roads here that give equal thrills
You must stop at the top
Crest the hill and then drop
What you'll then see is something like this...

Add narrow to the turns and ups and downs
There's one more thing when you drive in the towns.
It's the way they just stop,
Park, pick up or drop off.
And the traffic is snarled like this...
Remember Shell's house on Bonneville Drive?
How her driveway would make a good slide?
Ours is steep as can be
Not the worst that you will see
A sample of which looks like this...

If you don't know, they drive on the left side
Master that and you will feel some pride
While you're learning it's tense
Remember defense, DEFENSE!
Then you can smile when you drive like this...
Beeping the horn is the way that they say
I'm passing, I'm here, or you're in my way.
People walk in the street
You're so close to their feet
Daily the scene looks like this...
P.S. I've not yet been behind the wheel!
