The Missionary

Since we are preparing to serve a Senior Couple Mission I thought I would put a few pictures from when I served as a missionary to Uruguay - Oct 1962 to Apr 1965. (No MTC or LTM) This is my missionary farewell program. In those days an entire sacrament meeting was devoted to a farewell send-off for the missionary, including printed programs. At my farewell Robert Smith, one of my seminary teachers was the main speaker. He also just happened to be the brother-in-law to Elder Boyd K. Packer.

The mission president sent a Christmas card to all of us with a photo of the mission office and part of the city of Montevideo.

Almost immediately I was pressed into service using my talent for playing the guitar and singing at a branch gathering. This would later become my full-time calling for the last six months of the mission.
At one branch social three Elders and one of the young men put on a fashion show. I doubt that missionaries could get away with that today.

Looking back at this photo I can't believe how skinny I was. If only...alas, I am twice the man I was back then.

I'm sure they wouldn't get away with that these days :)

I loved the look back!
