The Handyman
Over the last two weeks Elder Bush has completed three handyman projects, mostly with very few tools. In the spare bedroom of our apartment there were boxes and boxes of books and missionary tracts just covering the floor. It was very unorganized and ugly, so Elder Bush got to work on it. Project 1. was a bookshelf. Elder Bush went to the lumber yard and bought the pieces of wood and got the lumber yard to cut them to size for him. He then assembled them by drilling holes with his Leatherman tool and then using the screw driver in the leatherman, he screwed them together. He then bought some paint and borrowed a paint brush from our landlady to paint the bookshelf. Now the Books of Mormon and tracts are organized and neat. Project 2. The sign out in front of the church building was just awful. It looked like they had gone out of business. Since getting a new sign sent to us from the Facilities Group in Trinidad was so involved, Elder Bush hired a sign painter to do two new signs on metal. Photo 1. is the old sign as it appeared last week. Photo 2. is Elder Bush and one of the young Elders putting up one of the new signs. Photo 3. shows Elder Winzenried and Elder Tyau helping hold the sign in place so Elder Bush can put in the screws. Photos 4. and 5. are Elder Bush putting in the screws on the other side and photo 6. is the finished sign.Project 3. Sometime last year the main door to our church building was broken. It had remained broken until this week. With the help of a friend of the church, Elder Bush repaired the broken door. Photo 1. shows the crack from the front after glueing, clamping and puttying. Photo 2. shows the cracked door from the back. Photo 3. shows where they drilled into the cross member and inserted a dowell for strength. They did this in four places. Photo 4. shows Elder Bush applying wood putty to the crack. Photos 5. and 6. show Elder Bush sanding. Photos 7. and 8. Elder Bush is painting the door. The repaired door is finally re-hung. It actually looks pretty good. You can't even see the crack anymore.
